  • Ultima: Never ending legend (Under posting)

Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar

xu4 is a game engine recreation for Ultima IV that is available for Dreamcast, Linux, Mac OS X, RISC OS and Windows. The Windows version and any source compile requires original Ultima IV for DOS files to run, but Mac and Linux versions have been allowed by Origin to include the files. Maintains compatibility with the 1985 DOS version (you can use save files from the DOS game on xu4, and vice versa).

There are two other editions currently available, using the Neverwinter Nights engine. The first is Avatarship - Ultima 4. The second is Ultima Reborn See The Ultima Reconstruction page for more details.

    Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny

In December 2005, a fan-made three-dimensional remake of Ultima V called Ultima V: Lazarus was released as a modification for Dungeon Siege.

In 2006, a fan-made computer role-playing game engine called Nazghul was released. Inspired by Ultima V, it is designed to create Ultima-style games.

In May 2008, a complete remake of Ultima V was created for TI calculators (TI-89, TI-89Ti, TI-92+, and TI-V200) . See the Ultima V for TI Calcs project forums.

    Ultima VI: The False Prophet

There is a current project to recreate Ultima VI using Dungeon Siege engine.[5] Another remake project uses the Exult engine, using graphics from Ultima VII. Ultima 6 Online is an MMO version of Ultima VI

    Ultima VII

Exult is a recreation of the Ultima VII engine, which allows the game to be played on modern machines and across different operating systems. Exult's array of tools have enabled fans to take the game apart and modify it. It has enabled several fan translation projects. Exult contributors have also expanded the game by enabling Serpent Isle paper doll graphics in Black Gate, and fixed some of the bugs and design flaws found in Serpent Isle, which were originally left in due to the rushed release.

    Ultima VIII: Pagan

Being a DOS title, Ultima VIII has problems running on modern systems such as Windows 98 and later; however, it works reliably under the DOSBox environment. Unlike Ultima VII which used Intel's undocumented "Big real mode" which became known as Voodoo Memory at Origin, Ultima VIII used a more conventional DOS extender, Phar Lap 286, but after loading it modified the x86 registers to convert from a 16-bit address space into 32-bit mode on selected segments.

An open-source project called Pentagram aims to create an engine capable of running Ultima VIII on modern operating systems, most notably Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

    Ultima IX: Ascension

Many fans have created patches to make the game more to their liking. Some of the most popular patches are:

    • Patch v1.19 - which enhances the game's performance and fixes some bugs, released unofficially by an anonymous member of the development team. The patch fixed many problems still present in the last official patch (1.18).
    • Dialogue Patch - which rewrites the dialogue (though not the storyline) for almost the entire game, fixes plot holes, and increases coherency with the rest of the series. The patch changes the dialogue text but not audio, so speech must be disabled to use it. The patch also allows the player to change the name of the Avatar character, a feature found in earlier Ultima games but omitted from Ultima IX due to inclusion of voice acting.
    • Economy Patch - which causes the in-game shops to stock more items and changes the prices of items.
    • Monster Patch - which makes enemies stronger and harder to defeat.

Any combination of these patches can be used if desired, though the Dialogue, Economy, and Monster patches are distributed as a single package. The last official patch (1.18) must be installed first before applying any fan-made patches.
